Hi. I’m a lesbian who loves tgcf. Thought that was rare and more of a bi girl thing but seems like we are in the millions. Why do you think lesbians love tgcf?
logical answer: since lesbians are few we tend to flock together/share the same online spaces and end up absorbing each other’s interests. and despite its many flaws, tgcf is genuinely a good story
my tinfoil hat answer: mxtx accidentally wrote gay baihe/lesbian danmei with tgcf, in that many elements within the story directly parallel common - not universal, but common - lesbian experiences. hualian getting to a point in their relationship where they obviously regard each other differently from their friends, kissing at every opportunity, and still questioning whether that actually means anything mirrors how tough it can be for lesbians to discern between platonic and romantic, as romantic/sexual relationships between women are severily undermined, if not outright denied. hua cheng’s disgust and shame towards his feelings - especially sexual - reminds me of being 14 and having a younger friend, a crush, whom I was convinced I had “corrupted” when she confessed she had feelings for me. the plain domesticity + fervent devotion combo. wanting desperately to kill your beloved’s father figure. the experience of feeling so different and alienated from everyone around you, then that soul-sighing relief when meeting someone just like you. virtually no difference between a 800 year old disgraced god/a devoted ghost living in a world that moved on and a pair of lesbians. I feel like I’m describing my relationship here I’m serious. it’s to the point where you could turn hualian into lesbians and it would not only not change anything but quite possibly make it even better
